The school district has received reports of coyote sightings near Harris Hill Elementary School and Sheridan Hill Elementary School. The district has been in contact with the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) for assistance. The district has been informed that one possible solution, trapping the coyote, is not possible until the beginning of trapping season, which starts on October 25, 2017.
The DEC recommended that the district install motion sensor devices that emit a high frequency sound and flash lights when an animal gets near the device. The district has purchased motion sensor devices for all four elementary school buildings and is in the process of installing them around the playground areas. A photo of the device can be seen below.
