As the third quarter closes, students are looking forward to warmer weather and having thoughts of their future in grade seven. Grade five students spent much of the end of the year with special events and preparing for the fifth grade promotion ceremony as they closed the chapter on elementary school life.  Middle School students begin the time when they are scheduled for instruction until the very end of the school year.  It will be the first time your child will experience final exams, one of the last in new experiences for grade six students.   The exam will count as ten percent of their overall average in each of the core areas.   Please speak with your child about the importance of staying focused on the tasks ahead.

On another note, one of the great challenges for school personnel and parents in guiding middle school children toward adulthood is to balance academic growth with healthy social development.  To achieve this, we cannot ignore the role technology plays in their lives. Technology is ubiquitous in today’s society.  The power of an iPhone is greater than the computer systems that have guided us on our first journeys into space.  We can use mobile devices as wonderful tools for learning and entertainment.  Students, unfortunately, can use texting, instant messaging, and especially Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat or Vine to interact with each other in a negative way.  These venues can be used to target and ridicule students in ways never before possible.   A cross word or picture can reach thousands of viewers in milliseconds.   We encourage students to think before they send or post.  Please join us in building responsible students who leave a positive digital footprint.
